Introducing an exciting new initiative for Indigenous artists!

The Tofino Arts Council, in collaboration with Tourism Tofino, is thrilled to announce the launch of the Makuw̓as Pop-Up E-Commerce Pilot. This project is designed to connect local artists to new sales channels and resources, helping them grow their reach and increase income opportunities through an online platform. The focus of this project is on raising the profile of local Indigenous artists. This is a pilot for future e-commerce projects that will be available to all Tofino Arts Council members.

What’s the Goal?
The Makuw̓as Pop-Up E-Commerce Pilot is a key step in bringing Indigenous artwork to a wider audience while building lasting economic pathways for artists. We aim to:

  • Test a long-term e-commerce model for Indigenous and local artists.

  • Create meaningful partnerships with Tofino Tourism and Tofino-Long Beach Chamber of Commerce that boost artists' visibility and earning potential.

  • Gather insight from artists to shape future placemaking projects and creative economic initiatives.

Key Dates

  • Artist Applications Close: October 25, 2024

  • Launch of Online Market: November 8, 2024

  • Market Closes: January 24, 2025

Selected artists will have their works featured in a dedicated online pop-up store hosted on Tourism Tofino's platform, providing a new and powerful way to showcase their art to both local and global audiences.

How to Apply
Interested local artists are encouraged to apply through the application form, Instagram or email. All forms of visual art are welcome, including carving, jewelry, and other mediums. See size limits and details in the application.

Why This Matters
This project is built on TAC's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, aligned with the principles of UNDRIP. It is more than a marketplace—it's a way to amplify Indigenous voices, support cultural sustainability, and ensure that artists can thrive in today’s digital economy.

What You’ll Gain

  • Increased visibility: Your art will reach a global audience.

  • Zero access fees for Indigenous artists.

  • Ongoing support from TAC, Tourism Tofino, and Tofino-Long Beach Chamber of Commerce.
