Welcome to 2.5 intensive days of inspiration and innovation where brushstrokes radiate with luminescent light and the brilliant hues of the Canadian and worldwide landscapes.
Dominik Modlinski’s work reflects his travel into remote areas of fast diminishing earth’s wilderness. The sources of his ingenuity are the never-ending supply of material that nature affords and the realities of our endangered environment.
The workshop is aimed for intermediate to advanced artists who wish to expand their knowledge of oil painting techniques ( acrylic painters are welcome ) while enhancing their perception and creative visualization painting plein air (weather permitting).
Dominik will address the principals of outdoor painting, drawing on his long practice and experience painting in many diverse environments of the world. With step-by-step approach Dominik will introduce you to composing a successful painting while on location by using correct color ratios and principals of colour contrasts. It will provide students understanding of colour mixing, which leads to harmonious and successful paintings.
On Friday evening, Dominik will in depth explain the weekend art process with digital presentation, art theory and films.
During Saturday and Sunday we will try and venture outside to glorious Tofino views, where Dominik will demonstrate in stages his approach in creating and successful plein air painting. There will be emphasis on the simplification of the subject matter with emphasis on the economy of brush movements to keep colours clean and saturated while traveling from one hue to another. The theme of transferring plein air ideas and its energy into a studio work will be constantly emphasized in our painting exercises.
Participants will be painting in stages along with Dominik’s demos and each section of the painting will be thoroughly explained. Dominik will also give individual and group critiques to stimulate using a creative vocabulary.
Dominik’s work is represented by multiple galleries represent across Canada, USA and South Africa.
